Bristol Sonics’ two open-age sides will come face to face with some old foes this weekend, as they look to continue their positive start to the 2011 Cooperative Rugby League Conference season.Following an impressive opening day victory over fellow Cooperative Rugby League Conference Midlands title rivals Birminbgham Bulldogs last Saturday, the Sonics’ first team host Telford Raiders at Aretians RFC, Little Stoke (kick off 2.30pm, free entry) this Saturday, 14 May. The Raiders, who are one of the most highly thought of clubs in the Conference thanks to their tireless junior development work, last faced the Sonics two seasons ago. Following a tense 14-4 win over Leamington Royals last weekend, the Raiders head to Bristol full of confidence and looking for an upset.The Sonics have a good record over the Raiders, but the sides have been involved in some close contests over the years. In the teams’ first encounter in 2004, the sides couldn’t be separated and had to settle for a draw. Later in that season, a last minute try from Paul Giddings – now pying his trade for the Sonics’ seconds – was just enough to overcome the men from ShropshireWhile the Sonics have proved stronger than the Raiders in recent seasons, Bristol Director of Coaching Karl Fearnley is expecting a tough game this Saturday:
