Do I have to pay anything to get involved?

Participation in the Sonics Schools Programme is free!

The player registration fee for the 2011 Cluster Clubs Summer season is £15.  This covers a training shirt, insurance and administration costs.

I want to play Rugby League, where is my nearest club?

Take a look at the Cluster Club pages for the locations of each of our clubs. If you have played in school there will also be a link to one of the Cluster Club – your teacher will be able to tell you more.

How safe is Rugby League?

Rugby League is reknowned as one of the most physical contact sports in the world and the physical challenge is what attracts players of all ages.   All our coaches are aware of best practices and will train kids in how to properly protect themselves during physical contact.  Injuries are rare, although they can happen.  Parents should be aware of the physical nature of the sport.

What equipment do I need to play Rugby League?

For matches a playing kit will be provided by the club (Shirt, Shorts & Socks). For training children will be expected to wear their own suitable kit, although will be provided with a training shirt.

Children are asked to bring the right footwear, namely boots with either moulded plastic or metal studs.  Blades or half metal/half plastic studs are not recommended.

A gum shield should be worn at all times during matches and brought to training for use during contact exercises.  Children can wear padded tops although this is not essential. Any padding should be supplied by an approved manufacturer (any Rugby kit supplier will be OK).

What is the Club’s position on child protection?

Please see the club’s child protection policy.

Are there any administrative issues I should be aware of?

All players are registered with both the club and the RFL.  You’ll be taken through all the necessary procedures with the Club Coaches or Secretary upon joining the club.  It might be worthwhile familiarising yourself with the club’s Academy Policies which apply across all of our Cluster Clubs.

The club’s academy induction pack containing all relevant policies and much more can also be downloaded here.
