SubSonics 7-7 Touch Me If You Can

The Sonics started the game lacking their usual numbers and in a shrewd move took the decision to play simple rugby and pressure the opposition when defending.  The first ten minutes was stalemate, with the Sonics having the best of the possession and territory but not able to find the try line. Just as both sides started to get a little frustrated, the Sonics kept their heads and a great move from one side of the pitch to the other led to the barn storming James Pritchard cutting a line and running in for the first try.

Pritchard’s try re-energised the game and it soon picked up pace. The referee let the game flow, and the Sonics got caught out at a quick penalty and it was soon 1-1.  The Sonics soon struck back with Mike “Chisvo” Lampard slicing twice through the defence to put Sonics up and another quick exchange of try’s lead to the half time score being 4-3, to the Sonics.

The second half was just as tight, with the Sonics again getting pinged for penalties and getting caught from the restarts. Ant Chisvo, the second of the Chisvo twins making his debut worked hard and added another dimension to the Sonics attack. However, the Sonics soon found themselves behind 7-5, and needed to rally hard to pull it back. Quick hands from dummy half Paul "The Punk" Harsent, across to Pritchard and then, through Lauren Hartigan’s ever improving hands to Karl “Th’Axe” Fearnley, who appeared “like a ninja” out wide  to cross in the corner to start the fight back. With only minutes to go the Sonics regained possession after an early error and went on the attack.  A couple of plays later they went over, but only to hear the hooter go for full time. Everyone came away smiling from what was described by the referee as “ the most enjoyable game he’s ref’d all season”
